Congress Objectives and Themes

San Francisco, California will be the site of the 2019 International Lupus Congress, “Lupus: Gateway to the Future”.  The major theme of the Congress is to bring attention to the prospect for advances in the diagnosis and treatment of SLE from the work of young investigators in precision medicine and other exciting areas. 

Topics of Congress sessions will span the full range of lupus research, from basic and translational science to epidemiology, clinical science, and the social, political, and economic determinants of health.

The first day of the Congress will showcase major advances and insights gained from recent research initiatives in SLE. The second day will focus on precision medicine, including opportunities and challenges associated with implementing a personalized approach to diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of lupus. The final day of the Congress will be a celebration of the future, with presentations featuring the most exciting research by young and mid-career investigators from every corner of the world and across the spectrum of disciplines in lupus research.
